Why Do Women Love Diamonds?

They say that they are forever. Others say they are a woman’s best friend and others still would say they can take a woman’s breath away. Let us break down the last two statements. One of Ian Fleming’s well-known James Bond series is entitled “Diamonds are forever”, the fourth installment to be exact.

Why would such a well-renowned author and literary icon name the novel as such? In my opinion it is simply because the key character in this series is not Bond but Tiffany Case. And what is the connection? Diamonds are created under extreme pressure and temperature, just like Case, her past was somewhat extreme. And the most important similarity is that they were formed to sparkle in the end, diamonds end up in a jewelry store and Case ended up with Bond of course.

Another famous cliche about these glittering wonder is that they are a woman’s best friends. Why are they said to be a lady’s best friend? Simple! Because of the fact that when worn, a diamond’s sparkle can really boost a woman’s status in the society. And not to mention, this gem is “THE” fashion statement of all fashion statements. Let’s face it, no matter how odd a woman dresses if she adorns this gem anywhere around her neck, ears, finger or arms, nothing can go wrong.

With this magnificent gem worn on a woman, fashion disaster can be avoided. And finally, when I say that a diamond can take a woman’s breath away, well, it can really do. Let us quantify the mix. You, your lady-love, years of relationship, trust and love, add the plans of settling down and top it up with a diamond engagement ring.

The result: a fairy-tale happy ending dreamt for so long by the woman of your life. A good formula for a lasting relationship which leads us to the very core of our topic: the Cushion Cut Diamond ring.

The Cushion Cut Diamond ring, as the name suggests, has a cushion cut diamond in the setting of the ring. This type of cut dates back to the 19th and 20th century. Renowned back then and clearly was the most common cut during the said time. It was known to some as The Old Mine Cut during those times. And way back in the 1800′s, it was the most sought after cut by royalties and blue-bloods.

Not only were they born with a silver spoon in their mouths, they also had this type of diamond as heirlooms as well. Fast forward to the late 20th century up to the 1st quarter of the first decade of this century, the cushion cut diamond have lost a little of its luster and was clearly overtook by other cuts such as the Asscher Cut to name a few. The fact that latter day diamonds are crafted to sparkle in bright, energized lights is the main reason for the cushion cut not to shine in today’s limelight.

This cut is lost but not forgotten, like the Hope Diamond at the Smithsonian and is inching its way to the top again. Previously somewhere on the bottom rung of the diamond popularity ladder, but its vintage and romantic style may be the reason that it is becoming trendy again. Add the fact that Angelina Jolie herself falls for this type of cut is probably another reason. Actresses like her fall for this antique cut because of the romanticism it entails. Here is a concrete example, in proposals done in candle-lit dinners, this type of diamond engagement ring shine to the occasion and falling head over heels to the one who proposed is not impossible.

Night-time garden weddings with torches and candle-lights are made even wonderful when the wedding ring donned to the bride has this type of diamond cut. And this diamond ring will tell the world that you are her only man. Need I say more?

If we are looking for romance and if we are a lover of vintage design, this diamond ring is a perfect fit. But this doesn’t mean that this is your ticket to a long lasting relationship. No, it will only add up to that but this ring is not the main reason.

We may take their breaths away with this, but not their hearts. Diamonds may be tagged as a woman’s best friend but they cannot be a shoulder to cry on. They may last forever but a woman only has a lifetime and her lifetime of memories she can treasure is not because of a diamond but because of a man who swept her feet.

Diamonds may awe her and sparkle in front of her but none shines more than you, the one who makes her smile. For her to say yes, shower her love and affection but for you to make it memorable, kneel in front of her, give her a box with the cushion cut diamond ring after a romantic dinner and ask the simple question, “Will you marry me?” I assure you, it won’t fail.
