Unusual Incidents Occurred on 26th Day Of the Month

Ever since the 26th November Terrorist Attacks on Mumbai, I was thinking about some unusal co-incidence associated with the date. Finally today I started researching on the same and gathered this piece of Information, never before collected on a single page.

As the title suggests, its related to the 26th Day of the Month. Can this be a pure co-incidence??? After checking this information, I cant say that. Let me know your views.

I can remember few incidents related with this date and did some research on remaining. These incidents are both Natural and Human Disasters. Please Note that  I had no Idea that the list of these disasters would be so long. Its really Shocking. Check out the Earthquake Dates…. I suppose most No. of Earthquakes have occured on 26th of the month.

Further more shocking is the Numerology associated with this no.
13 x 2 = 26.
So is it twice unlucky as 13??

Le Joola (Senegal) On 26th September 2002 the overloaded ferry Le Joola capsized in rough seas with an estimated 1,863 dead.
Toya Maru (Japan) A Japanese passenger ferry that sank during a typhoon in the Tsugaru Strait between the Japanese islands of Hokkaid? and Honsh? on September 26, 1954. It is said that 1153 people aboard were killed in the accident. However, the exact number of fatalities remains unknown because there were victims who managed to to get onboard the ship unticketed and others who cancelled their passage just before the incident.

HMS Bulwark (Great Britain) On 26 November 1914 a powerful internal explosion ripped the Bulwark apart at 7:50am while she was moored at Number 17 buoy in Kethole Reach, four miles (6 km) west of Sheerness in the estuary of the River Medway. All of her officers were lost, and out of her complement of 750, only 14 sailors survived; two of these men subsequently died of their injuries in hospital.
SS Portland (United States) On 26 November 1898 the steamship SS Portland left India Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts for Portland, Maine on a regularly scheduled run. She never made it to port. None of the 192 passengers and crew survived the massive storm that wreaked havoc on New England’s coast — a storm that was later dubbed “The Portland Gale” after the tragic loss of the ship.
MS Express Samina (Greece) On Tuesday 26 September 2000 the ro-ro ferry Express Samina hit a reef and sunk at 23:02 near the island of Paros. Eighty-two of the 473 passengers and 61 crew members a total 143 people were lost at sea.
Provence II (France) The French auxiliary cruiser was torpedoed in the Mediterranean Sea on 26 February 1916. An ocean liner in peace time, the La Provence was refitted for troop transport during World War One. She was transporting troops from France to Salonika when she was sunk by the German submarine U-35 south of Cape Matapan. Nearly a thousand French soldiers and sailors died in the sinking.
Suffren (France) The Suffren was returning to Lorient for a refit when, on 26 November 1916, off the Portuguese coast near Lisbon she was torpedoed by U-52. The torpedo detonated a magazine and Suffren sank within seconds, taking the crew of 648 with her.

Air-Flight Disasters

January 26 1972 – JAT Yugoslav Flight 367, a DC-9, suffered a bomb explosion while en route from Copenhagen to Zagreb. Twenty-seven of twenty-eight on board were killed. Vesna Vulovi?, the only survivor, was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records for surviving the longest fall without a parachute, over ten thousand meters.

November 26 1979– Pakistan International Airlines Flight 740, a Boeing 707, crashed after a fire in the cabin in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. All 145 passengers and 11 crew died.

March 26 1991 – Singapore Airlines Flight 117 is hijacked by Pakistani militants en route to Singapore, where, upon landing, it is stormed by Singapore Special Operations forces. All of the hijackers are killed in the operation, with no fatalities amongst the passengers and crew.

May 26 1991– Lauda Air Flight 004, a Boeing 767, disintegrates in mid-air over Uthai Thani Province, Thailand, killing all 223 people on board. A thrust reverser had accidentally deployed in flight, causing the disaster.

April 26 1993 – Indian Airlines Flight 491, a Boeing 737, strikes a large vehicle on a road just outside the Aurangabad airport and crashes subsequently, killing 55 of the 118 people on board.
July 26 1993 – Asiana Airlines Flight 733, a Boeing 737, crashes into a mountain in Haenam, South Korea after failed landing attempts, killing 78 of the 110 people on board.
April 26 1994 – China Airlines Flight 140, an Airbus A300, crashes while landing at Nagoya, Japan as a result of pilot error. 264 people of the 271 on board die.
September 26 1997– Garuda Indonesia Flight 152, an Airbus A300, crashes into a mountain near Buah Nabar, Indonesia killing all 234 on board.

Train Accidents

August 26, 1871 – Revere, Massachusetts, United States: A series of dispatching errors allow the Portland Express to collide with the rear of a stalled local train at Revere on the Eastern Railroad, telescoping the rear cars of the stopped consist. Coal-oil lamps ignite the wreckage and 29 die while 57 are injured. Several prominent Boston citizens are killed bringing much national publicity to the accident

December 26, 1876 – Hansted, Denmark: The two locomotives in a snow plough train separate under unclear circumstances and crash, killing nine locomotive crew and injuring 26 workmen.

July 26, 1913 – Bramminge train accident, Denmark: A train derails near Bramming due to heat-stressed rails. 15 die and about 80 are injured.

February 26, 1917 – near Soderhamn, Sweden: A train carrying invalid Russian soldiers home from Germany derails, causing the carriages to pile into one another. 11 are killed and 40 injured.

July 26, 1918 – A freight train carrying dynamite explodes, with passenger cars damaged at Shimonoseki station, Shimonoseki, western Honshu, Japan, killing at least 27, injuring another 106.

January 26, 1921 – Abermule train collision, Montgomeryshire, Wales: faulty operation of train tablet leads to head-on collision killing 17 people.

October 26, 1943 – Two freight trains collide with a derailed passenger train at Joban Line, Tsuchiura, Japan, causing two carriages to plunge into the river, killing 110 and injuring 107 according to Japanese media.

December 26, 1944 – According to Japanese media, a commuter train collided with another standing commuter train at Tsurumi market station, Keikyu Line, Yokohama, Japan, killing at least 53, and another 94 injured.

April 26, 1946 – Naperville, Illinois, United States: Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad’s Advance Flyer, stopped in Naperville station to check the running gear, is rammed by the Burlington’s Exposition Flyer, coming through on the same track at 80 mph (130 km/h). 47 killed, some 125 injured.

February 26, 1965 – A 500-tons of freight train head-on collided on a Khartoum-Port Sudan passenger train at Miseiktab, River Nile, Sudan, at least 100 killed and injuring 29

January 26, 1979 – A passenger train with disel locomotive derailed with overturned at Chuadunga station, Khuina, Bangladesh, killing 70 and injuring 200

September 26, 1996 – level crossing collision of a diesel locomotive into a school bus between Bataysk and Salsk in Rostov Oblast. 19 killed, including 18 children. September 28 was declared national day of mourning.

November 26, 1998 – Sealdah express rams into three car of derailed carriages of Golden Temple mail bound for Amrisar at Khanna station, outskirts of Ludhiana, Punjab, India, according to official confirmed, at least 212 people are killed.

December 26, 2004 – Queen of the Sea rail disaster, Telwatta, Sri Lanka: Approximately 1700 die in the world’s worst rail disaster as a train is overwhelmed by a tsunami created by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.

Ship Wrek Disasters.

26 November 1943.- HMT Rhona a British troop carrier sunk north of Béjaïa in an air attack during World War II . Of the 1,138 men lost, 1,015 were American. The attack still constitutes the largest loss of U.S. troops at sea.

26 February 1852.- HMS Birkenhead a British iron-hulled troopship that struck a submerged rock near Gansbaai, Western Cape. Only 193 of the 643 people onboard survived.

26 September 2002. – MV Joola a Senegalese passenger ship that capsized off the coast of The Gambia .
The disaster resulted in the deaths of at least 1,863 people. The sinking of the ferry Joola is thought to be the second-worst non-military maritime disaster in number of lives lost.

26 January 1749.-Amsterdam a protected wrecksite, the Dutch East India Company ship ran aground near Hastings .

26 January 1932. – HMS M2a British aircraft-carrying submarine shipwrecked in Lyme Bay .

26 October 1588- Girona, foundered and sank off Lacada Point, County Antrim, Ireland.The wreck is noteworthy for the loss of life that resulted, and for the treasures since recovered.Of the estimated 1300 people on board, there were nine survivors, who were sent on to Scotland by Sorley Boy MacDonnell; 260 bodies were washed ashore.

26 February 1918- Tiberia merchant ship torpedoed and sunk by U-19 off Black Head near Larne, County Antrim .

26 February 1982 – MV Craigantlet British container ship run aground at Killantringan lighthouse, Wigtownshire.

26 October 1859. – Royal Charter a steam clipper driven onto rocks near Moelfre, Anglesey.The precise number of dead is uncertain as the passenger list was lost in the wreck, but about 459 lives were lost, the highest death toll of any shipwreck on the Welsh coast

Tornado
May 26, 1917 – A powerful F4 tornado rips Mattoon, Illinois apart, killing 101 people and injuring 689. It was the world’s longest-lasting tornado, lasting for over 7 hours and traveling 293 miles, spreading death and destruction along its path.

August 26, 1942 – Holocaust in Chortkiv, western Ukraine: At 2.30 am the German Schutzpolizei starts driving Jews out of their houses, divides them into groups of 120, packs them in freight cars and deports 2000 to Belzec death camp. 500 of the sick and children murdered on the spot.

 

1982

April 26, 1982  57 people are killed by former police officer Woo Bum-kon in a shooting spree in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea.

26,November 2004 - Ruzhou School massacre: a man stabs and kills eight people and seriously wounds another four in a school dormitory in Ruzhou, China.

June  26 - 18 Deaths –  Al-Karmah, Anbar province. A suicide bomber attacked a meeting of tribal sheikhs. U.S. troops, who were in attendance, were among the injured. It is believed that AQI was behind the attack.[89]

June  26 - 18 Deaths Mosul. A car bomb exploded in a busy market minutes after a previous explosion.

July  26 -  50+ Deaths Ahmedabad. A series of seventeen blasts killing 49 and injuring 160 people.

August  26 -  28 Deaths - Jalawla, Diyala Governorate. 28 people were killed outside a police station by a suicide bomber.

September 26  -   Damascus. At least 17 people been killed and 14 hurt by a car bomb on the outskirts of Syria’s capital. The target of the blast was unclear, but it struck close to an important Shia shrine and a security post

November 26  200+  Deaths  Mumbai. Armed terrorists opened fire at eight different sites in a coordinated attack.
