Edging of Lawn

Edging of Lawn

The beauty of a lawn lies in the neatness with which it flows on the landscape and carrying all its curvature and boundaries. Edging of lawn is important to give it a manicured look, which makes it soothing and beautiful. Edging is a technique and a time consuming job, but gives good results. Edging is the last step of the mowing process. This job requires lots of patience and many tools to faithfully follow the area boundaries.

First step in edging is to make the edges that are straight and easy to make. Place the cutter wheel along the edge and move it back and forth. Do not apply much pressure as it may pluck some grass. The motive of edging is to cut the grass neatly and not to pull away the adjoining grass. If edging is not done properly and the tool pulls away the near by grass, the lawn gets a shabby look. Proper care should be taken in this process while using accessories so as to avoid injury.

Second step is to make edges for trees. For making the edges around the trees, grass shears should be used. The root contour should be followed carefully. Slowly cut the grass in the pockets around the trees with grass shears. Care should be taken as trees should not be hurt. The beauty of seamless joint of trees with the lawn is awesome. Edging near the trees is the activity that makes your trees integral part of the lawn and not just patches growing around the lawn. If the use of grass shears is not lending itself for entering some deep pockets in the tree roots, use some small shovel and hand to slowly remove the grass without creating any patch or uneven surface. Once the edges near the trees are done, use a light grass mower to run around the trees so that any unevenness created can be taken care off.

The third step in edging is to make the grass even on the patches that are left out by the grass mower. The grass patches that are very big in size and cannot be cut by grass mower should be removed by using string trimmer. The string trimmer cuts the long grass and makes them leveled. If string trimmer is not available the use of grass cutting scissors is also justified. The effort in the latter case is more so proper tools should be used.

Fourth step is to level the lawn between the bed and the lawn. There is a tool for the activity, which makes the job simple and easier. The tool has a small rounded edge and looks like a circular arc. It should be kept at the bed edge and then pushed by foot towards the bed edge. This will cut the part of the grass going out of the bed area.
